John Coovert was an early 20th century photographer (active 1862-1937) from Mississippi who became famous for his images of African Americans harvesting cotton in the south. Early on in his career as a photographer He won a Gold medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition for his photographs of state views. Coovert's "Cirkut" photographs can be viewed in the Library of Congress.

The gelatin silver panoramic photo is quite large at approximately 40-1/2" x 9-1/2", and the overall dimensions in it's original oak frame are 50" x 17".
