High quality photographic digital copies

All digital images for sale on Old Photographic are high resolution copies of the original photograph, or negative. Below is a summary of what kinds of manipulations we perform on an image if needed.

  • We scan all of our images on a high end HP scanner at 300ppi (pixels per inch), then we correct contrast using curves.
  • If an old photograph is severly damaged we will restore missing parts and clean up major spots and staining.
  • If an image is out of focus we will sharpen it.
  • In most cases we also resize the image to be printed in up to poster size. If you are going to be printing on a standard ink jet or laser printer, you can select resize to fit media type in your printer settings when printing on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
  • All digital downloads are delivered as .jpg files.

We do not retouch an image any further than what is described above.

If you need an image scanned at higher resolutions please contact our sales department.

About printer resolution

Printer resolution is different from, but related to image resolution. To print a high quality photo on an inkjet printer, an image resolution of at least 220ppi should provide good results. Since we scan all of our images at 300ppi, you will acheve optimal results on any good printer.
